We had a visit this week from our gardening guru, Jess. Our little green thumbs got straight to work and everyone seemed quite at home with a pair of gardening gloves on! We planted: carrot seeds; zucchini and passionfruit plants; parsley; and basil. Together we did lots of digging, pulling out weeds, poking; and planting. And we now have over 500 worms happily munching through the food scraps, fertilising our new plants and keeping our soil healthy.

We love gardening with the kindy kids, and it’s a great activity to do at home too. Gardening:

  • engages all of the senses;
  • helps us talk about where food comes from;
  • encourages healthy eating habits;
  • refines vital motor skills for writing, cutting and typing;
  • introduces scientific thinking (enquiring, predicting, observing and experimenting);
  • provides great bonding and time for conversation;
  • and so much more…

We will report back again once our plants are flowering and our seeds have sprouted!
