Each year we are lucky to receive a special visit from some local farm animals. This year we invited some sheep, goats, ducks and hens to come and say hello. We learned a few things about our furry and feathered friends, and then (with varying degrees of confidence) the children had a chance to feed and stroke the animals.
Incursions like this provide wonderful hands-on learning opportunities for children. They help to build confidence and encourage us to try new things. Today we learned:
- That farms put a variety of foods on our table;
- To interact with care, empathy and respect
- Different names for baby and adult animals; and
- We experienced the sights, sounds, smells and touches of farm animals.
Do you have pets at home? Or visit farm animals with your children?
