Child-led learning (shaping our teaching around children’s actual interests) is an important part of our kindy philosophy. With the Easter long weekend looming and many families heading off camping, today we turned our outdoor classroom into a magical campground for the kids! We ate lunch (and marshmallows) around a campfire. We built tents out of sheets and blankets. We rode bikes and imaginary horses, and we lazed in the shade of the trees. There was also a special visit from a few easter bunnies…

Camping is another fantastic activity for families:

  • It’s relatively inexpensive (with some basic camping gear);
  • It creates opportunities to spend quality time together;
  • It lets us connect with nature, away from (most) technology;
  • Children enjoy new experiences (like camp stove/fire cooking);
  • Walks and hiking are also a nice way to stay fit and active active as a family.

Do you camp with your children – in your back garden or further afield? Do you know of any good family-friendly camp sites in and around WA?
